The Seattle Prep dance team is one of the highlights of every major school gathering. Back To School, Football games, and Homecoming, Pulse always shows up with an incredible new routine to share. With all the cheers that surround their performances, Pulse dancers feel loved yet wonder how they can truly feel valued without being considered for a HEX credit. At Seattle Prep, playing a sport for 2 or more seasons exempts someone from being required to take a Health and Exercise class, and is the ultimate form of recognition.
Pulse Captain, Grace Bailey shared, “If any person who plays a sport at prep tried to do one of our 5-minute-long routines, they wouldn’t be able to breath or walk after.” Through workouts to warm up and runs through the dances for stamina training, Pulse dancers receive an abundance of physical exercise. Therefore, according to the captains, they should be considered for the HEX credit as all other Prep sports athletes are.
Another Pulse Captain, Marin Flocchini ‘28, mentioned, “All the dancers work so hard and have a large time commitment, and the work definitely pays off. I don’t think it’s acknowledged how much we really do.” With 2-hour practices 3 days a week, plus lunch rehearsals most Tuesdays and Thursdays, Pulse works tirelessly to ensure they put on a good show. Through countless hours of preparation, being on Pulse is a big responsibility, putting on a performance for the whole school.
Flocchini also remarked, “Recognition of Pulse would be helpful to attract more dancers to the team and it’s a great way to gain confidence in and express yourself.” Being acknowledged as a sport worthy of a HEX credit would help the team grow. Not to mention, it would be beneficial for Pulse and the students they perform for. The captains believe adding more dancers to the team would be a great way to show school spirit, along with expressing oneself through movement and creativity.
Overall, the Pulse Captains believe that for their hard work to be accounted for, they should be recognized with a HEX credit. Their race to prepare their dances in the short time between school events leaves them constantly busy and active, with no ‘off’ season. Therefore, the Pulse team’s amount of physical activity, hard work, and time commitment leave them worthy of a HEX credit.
