Seconds after the bell rung marking the end of the school day, the three karaoke judges delivered their verdict, sending the Seniors and two Junior Collegios to the finals at the Olympic Week Closing Ceremonies on Friday.
One of the most anticipated assemblies of the year, the Karaoke event delivered once again as the pinnacle of the school’s artistic and performing abilities. The typical range in performance quality persisted, as some teams prepared more than others for their delivery, but the average level of execution seemed to be higher for this year’s assembly.
The Faculty, a perennial contender for the Karaoke crown, were notably left out of the final three teams. Their decision to parody the Super Bowl halftime show may have seemed too unoriginal to the judges, and some may remember that the Faculty did their own rendition of the big game’s concert as recently as 2023. However, it’s worth mentioning the technical difficulties that played an unfortunate role in their performance.
The Junior class as a whole delivered, with two Collegios advancing to the finals, and an Honorable Mention for another, Rahner. They closed out their performance with a show-stopping break dancing session by Mateo Baptista-Allen ’27, which seemed to be enough to win over the at least some of the judges.
The Class of 2026 came in with high expectations, having won Karaoke the past two years, and got the job done, setting up a primetime show on Friday. Their medley of 2016 hits featured characters such as Oliver Martinez ’26 as Drake and Henry Sly ’26 as Sean Paul.
Amid the plethora of athletic and intellectual Olympic Week events, Karaoke stands out once again as the most entertaining and creative.
