Senior Terao is Swinging for the Fences

Jacob Terao ‘17 is one of the few people blessed with the extreme amount of athleticism, work ethic, and passion necessary to compete in Division I baseball.

He began his career at the age of four years old with the impressive goal to: “get out of the house and get some exercise.” This sparked his love for baseball that has since grown into a raging flame. He says his whole life of training has prepared him to: “do all that [he] can to help [his] team put a banner up so that the team this year can leave a legacy behind for the young ones to come.”

Terao has been a vital part of Prep’s baseball team all four years of his Prep career, giving him the experience to be a successful captain and leader to the team. He says he also learned how to unify a team from the seniors of last year and plans to apply that to make all new players welcome. The four year varsity catcher finds that his position allows him to be able to lead the team because: “As a catcher you can change the mood of the entire team because they feed off of you.”

Terao continued to say that he loved being involved in every play and helping others to know their responsibility. Terao is looking forward to playing baseball and continuing his Catholic education at the University of Portland next year. He chose Portland because he had a “gut feeling” that it was the right place for him and felt welcomed by the coaches. He also adds that he doesn’t want to travel to far from home because he likes how “Portland has a vibe similar to Seattle” and coming back home will not be a far travel.

Terao says he is really excited to play college ball but definitely does not want to overlook his senior season he at Prep. He says “I need to be able to stay in the present and appreciate all the things I have in my life now.”

His goal is for his senior season is to set records and be one of the greatest players to come through Prep. He also says “Coach Engel better be worried about that homerun record.”
