Movies to Fall in Love With

Meghan Kearney, Prep Life Editor

Whether it’s having a romantic candle-light dinner or eating ice cream on the couch this Valentine’s Day, there is no other perfect post-date activity than watching a festive movie dedicated to this day of love and affection.  Hollywood has written countless screenplays about love, and what better day to explore these works of art than February 14th?  Here are a few of the best romantic movies of all times to help make this Valentine’s Day the best one ever:

THE NOTEBOOK

This is a classic story about a boy who finds love against all odds.  Noah (Ryan Gosling) falls in love with the beautiful Allie (Rachel McAdams) one summer while Allie is vacationing with her family.  Allie eventually must depart and go back to her home in New England, leaving Noah brokenhearted.   Seven years later, the two meet again and rekindle the love that was so strong when they were young and carefree.  Sure to leave you in tears, this bittersweet love story will not be soon forgotten by anyone who watches it.

VALENTINE’S DAY

As the title suggests, this flick is perfect for anyone looking for a good rom-com about finding love the day on it is celebrated the most.  Throughout the movie, multiple stories featuring a wide variety of characters are woven in and out, creating an entertaining story line that keeps the audience guessing who will end up falling for whom.  With this star-studded cast featuring Julia Roberts, Patrick Dempsey, Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, and Taylor Swift, this is a fun and charming film that will have the viewer laughing and smiling all the way.

LOVE ACTUALLY

Although the tale takes place during Christmas, it’s never the wrong time to cozy up with this hilarious and heartfelt story.  Similar to Valentine’s Day, this movie weaves together the lives of multiple people (played my actors such as Colin Firth, Kiera Knightly, and Emma Thompson) who are each on the quest to find true love around the holidays.  Often referred to as the ultimate romantic comedy, Love Actually never misses the mark.  The tender declarations of love will soften hearts and the hilarious happenings will crack smiles.

50 FIRST DATES

Who doesn’t love an Adam Sandler movie featuring waffles, penguins, and Hawaii?  This delightful story is about Henry (Sandler) who falls in love with the beautiful Lucy (Drew Barrymore).  Unfortunately, Lucy suffers from amnesia and keeps reliving the same day over and over again, causing Henry to fight to win her heart time after time.  Proving that love really does find a way, thisheartwarming film shows how one man will go to great lengths on order to be with the girl of his dreams.

GHOST

Although tragic, this film will leave its audience struck by how powerful love can be.  After Sam (Patrick Swayze) suddenly dies, his ghost still follows his girlfriend Molly (Demi Moore) around during her everyday life.  After learning that one of his friends has a plan to hurt Molly, Sam finds an eccentric psychic (Whoopi Goldberg) to help him save the one who he was separated from far too soon.  While Ghost does pull on the heartstrings, it also displays utter devotion to saving true love against all odds.
