As the Prep school year begins, the football team looks to kick off the season with a bang. The overall goal of this season is to reach their team’s fullest potential. Unlike last year, the Panthers cannot rely on a few key players to carry the team. Head Coach Garrett Cook explained that the team has a lot of depth and will have to work together to pull from the same side of the rope.

The attitude for this varsity squad for the 2013 season is all about TEAM. When asking players what they are most looking forward to this season, junior Dylan Barber commented, “Proving all the people that thought we were going to lose wrong with all my brothers.”

The strategies implemented this year for Prep football includes taking advantage of the strength program that Coach Durand designs, and incorporating powerful running and timely passing for the offense. Also, once the offensive line realizes their potential the Panthers will improve dramatically. The defense, Cook explains, will need to take advantage of their player intelligence.

This Seattle Prep football team is led by senior captains Tim Bowers, Jack Henning, Clayton Comisky and Jack Iseman. But additionally, Cook stated that juniors Jonathan Khalfayan, Jackson Hazzard, Joe Dugoni and Peter Geivett are undeniable leaders who work very hard.  Players who are also likely to make an impact this year are Kevin Kocher and Sam Kopf, who are forceful runners.

On September 7th, The Panthers had the opportunity to play in The Emerald City Kickoff Classic for the second time in the past three years. This year, the squad played in the brand new stadium and strategized in the updated visitor’s locker room. When asked about playing the in The Kickoff Classic, Coach Cook said it shows how much respect the state has for Seattle Prep football. Although the outcome was not ideal, the boys fought hard and learned from the experience.  With a tough loss to the Roosevelt, 7-0, the Panthers hope to learn from their actions and constantly improve on their game. And with a win under their belt with the crushing win of 50-13 over West Seattle, the team is pumped up to play every opponent that comes their way.
