School is back in swing, and so is off-campus lunch. At Prep, only juniors and seniors can go off-campus during the 40–50-minute period. Located in north Capitol Hill, many options for Panther lunch are only a few minutes away. Outside Prep and down E Miller St. are three phenomenal options: Omaki Rolls & Teriyaki, Pagliacci Pizza, and Copper Tree Coffee House.
Omaki: sushi, teriyaki chicken, and best of all, boba. It’s a popular spot for students who want to grab a drink before class. Additionally, it was co-opened by the parents of two recent Prep alums: Ella and Justine Utz ’24. Of the three corner options, Omaki tied for first with its neighbor across the street, Pagliacci’s.
Pagliacci: to-go slices – a popular pick for lunches. They serve slices: cheese, pepperoni, margherita (on Mondays), prosciutto and arugula, and more. Also, they have delicious salads, that come in small or large sizes. There’s seating inside and much of their business is credited to Prep students.
Finally, Copper Tree: home to coffees, hot chocolates, chai tea, and many more drinks. Also, they have delicious pastries. Students love this option to grab a drink before class, a mid-day pick-me-up coffee, or a tasty croissant.
Most Prep students know about these options, but what is Prep’s favorite option? Of all the places within a 10-15-minute drive from Prep, Chipotle took a whopping win. About 30% of the 26 students who were sampled voted Chipotle for their favorite spot. There are two locations: University Village and University District, each about 10 minutes from Prep. Chipotle allows order ahead, so when students arrive their food is ready for them.
Another highly voted spot was Ezell’s. a 7-minute drive from Prep, located in Wallingford, Ezell’s offers fabulous fried chicken, famous rolls, and a variety of sides. Close by to Ezell’s is Dick’s Burgers, another popular option and a well-known cheap Seattle burger spot.
Finally, Macrina Bakery and Oxbow Bagels were amongst the favorites and most underrated spots. Macrina and Oxbow are south of Prep, Macrina offers various pastries and lunch items, and Oxbox has famous bagels.
