Get ready to kick off the autumn season with Prep’s annual Spooktacular Fall Concert! On Sunday October 29th at 2pm in the Healy Theater, Prep’s choir, directed by musical director Elliot Weeks, will partner with the Glee Club to perform songs sure to make you feel the need to indulge in some pumpkin spice lattes.
The Spooktacular is known for its festive fun, as performers often dress in Halloween costumes to prepare audience members for the eerie holiday. Last year there were not one but two singing hot dogs, plus condiments! Talk about a mouthwatering performance!
This year’s concert setlist has some chilling songs like “Autumn Vesper” as well as the familiar “Double Trouble” from the one and only Harry Potter. With the talented voices of the Panthers representing Prep, they are sure to sound even better than Hogwarts’ choir.
The beginning of the concert will start with the soloists and group performances then will be followed by the choir’s main act. When asked about the upcoming Spooktacular Weeks says that “there is a lot of talent in the choir this year” going on to say that his favorite part about this less formal concert is the “fun costumes students dress up in.”
The festivities of the Halloween spirit are underway and Panthers in the choir are hard at work in the music room counting down the days to the Spooktacular. Senior section leader, Molly O’Donnell, shared her concert-prep, admitting that being a section leader comes with certain responsibilities: “I usually check in with my section, record part tracks if anyone needs them, and listen to the concert repertoire whenever I have time.”
O’Donnell even gave away one of her secret weapon tactics to drink decaf black tea with honey before she goes on stage. Her commitment to concert-prep may be intense to some, but her dedication shines through in her leadership and hard work.
Being the least formal choir concert of the year, the Spooktacular allows for more student leadership and individuality. Soloists get to dictate their performance and this year the choir even has a student conducted song! O’Donnell dealt out her optimism for this year saying “I’m very excited about our songs this year and I’m so proud of the choir for the community we’ve created and the musical growth we’ve experienced.”
With Prep’s choir being led by a majority of seniors, every rehearsal and especially performance is bittersweet. There are many “lasts” for these seniors as they recall their “firsts” a couple of years ago. This bittersweet feeling has thus far encouraged those in choir to perform to their fullest and ensure that choir’s class of 2024 students go out with a bang.
The harmonies and lulling melodies will put audience members in a trance of the cozy fall season and will set the stage for more arts productions and performances to look forward to. Anyone interested in performing as a soloist or with a group are encouraged to email Weeks or see him in person in the choir room. The student body is encouraged to come to the Healy Theater on October 29th at 2pm to join the festivities of the spooky season.
