Ah lunch… pretty much the only period of the day that the whole school is eager to participate in the minute they roll out of bed. Lunch is an important part of the day to step aside from the intense typing and doodling done in class. Lunch gives students the ability to finish last minute homework, socialize about homecoming, but most importantly, lunch refuels the body to accomplish the rest of the day. After all, lunch is second most important meal of the day. As Seattle Prep students returned back to school in late August, many of them stated that out of the new additions of the new Adelphia Memorial Hall, the cafeteria and new food was one of their favorites.
Now that a majority of McDonnell Hall is under construction, more tables have been put in the Great Room and Cafeteria to sit more comfortably. It is an improvement from the ground that many people ate on that annoyed the students that had to step over other these people’s legs just to get to their next class. The new cafeteria even has a great mural that captures the spirit of the Prep community since 1891. “I love it! The cafeteria is so open and there’s always enough space for anyone who wants it,” says daily cafeteria eater, Emma Engle ’17.
Around noon, hungry students rush out of their classes for lunch to get a spot in the lunch line. The cafeteria is not just a new room with new food, it also has a new system. The students feel a sense of convenience as they can use the pass-by line when just grabbing a quick snack or drink instead of a full meal. And to make the paying process even faster, students pay with their student IDs.
As students step into Adelphia on the fifth floor, they are lured to the second floor cafeteria to buy the tempting hot food causing the aroma. Many students say that the distance to get from a class to the cafeteria may be equivalent to the fall sport they never signed up for, but others say that after eating all that good food, it’s worth the exercise. The food that is being served fulfills the student’s body from broccoli to french fries with all the benefits of being around $6 to buy for the full meal, chips, and a drink.
After all this cafeteria criteria that many students have given, the new cafeteria and food definitely break the universal stereotypical rumors of school lunches always being so gross. And if students loved the lunch so much, they can wake up early with excitement the next day to see what they’re serving for breakfast.
