Homecoming Football Game Highlights Spirit Week
November 2, 2021
After a lively Spirit Week filled with creative, Jukebox-themed outfits and an abundance of school pride, the 2021 homecoming festivities concluded on the evening of Friday, October 15th with the alumni barbeque and the annual football game at West Seattle Stadium!
The barbeque began at 6:30 pm, and despite the long and arduous trek from Seattle Prep to West Seattle Stadium, the parking lot was packed with the cars of Prep students and families ready to show their support for the football team. Upon entering the barbeque area, attendees could purchase merchandise from a makeshift Panther Place, such as various royal blue hoodies, crewnecks, and scarves. Panther alumni and families feasted on freshly cooked burgers and hot dogs before the game commenced.
At 7:00 pm, the Prep Panthers were ready to storm the field and challenge the Garfield Bulldogs for kickoff. The close game kept fans on the edge of their seats, with both teams tied at 28-28 by halftime. For the halftime show, Pulse performed an outstanding dance number to energize the crowd followed by the seniors presenting their class dance to “Surfin’ U.S.A.” by The Beach Boys.
Once halftime ended, the football team was prepared to push through the second half. School spirit remained high through a combination of great plays and ASB’s lively cheers. Although the Panthers fell behind, they fought to the very end, keeping the score close. Eventually, the game ended with a nail-biting score of 49 to 42, with Garfield taking the victory at the last second. Hannah DeGroot, class of ’23, exclaimed, “It was such a fun way to come together as a community!”
The Panthers wrapped up a spirit-filled week by uniting to support their football team, invigorated with school pride and anticipation for the Homecoming dance!
