Spring Break Gives Students Sun, Fun
May 1, 2014
Seattle Prep kids are known for amazing Spring Break trips. Whether it is a service trip, a family vacation to an exotic destination, or just staying in Seattle and enjoying the sun, students always return with stories and, most of the time, with a tan.
Aaron Whitters ‘16 shared his experiences during his freshmen year spring break, “I went to Mexico with my family, expecting to be forced to go to some weird shows and eat some interesting food, but I had a much better time than I expected. At our hotel, we found one of my old friends who I had gone to middle school with at Holy Rosary. Throughout the entire vacation, I spent my time catching up with him about all the old times we had in middle school sports. After I got back to Seattle, I again became a close friend to him and we started to play soccer on some of our off days from school.” Like Whitters, many Prep students meet new people or start old activities that they never would have had time for during the rigorous school year.
Another popular activity for Prep students is to go on service trips. This spring break, Prep offered one such service trip to New Orleans. While these trips take up the majority of the spring break and has enough work that some might consider it to be a “true vacation,” nearly no students that have taken one of the service trips has considered it too much hard work for a spring break, but instead to be a fun and interesting experience that is a nice way to end the school year.
While many consider staying in Seattle to be one of the worst ways to enjoy a school break, especially a warm-weathered one, there is still a small group of kids that make the most of their time staying in Seattle. One student, Omar Mussehl ‘14, noted, “throughout the entire school year when I’m working hard to finish homework and study for tests, I never am given time to just relax and not have any worries. This spring break, I plan to spend time with my family but also outside walking around and simply enjoying the spare time that I hardly ever have.”
