On February 10th Seattle Prep’s choir will be attend the Catholic School Choir Festival at Benaroya Hall.
The Prep choir consists of a sophomore choir, a junior choir and the window choir, coming to a total of about one hundred students. Prep will be joined by several other Catholic Schools from different areas of Seattle. The stage will be filled with about seven hundred students ranging from freshmen to seniors.
Each school sings one song of their choice and then all the males and all the females sing two separate songs chosen by the guest conductor. The song that Prep Choir Director Dr. Beyer chose for the choir to sing is an A Capella piece titled “Lonesome Road.” This song was also performed at the Christmas Choir Concert and is a crowd favorite.
The songs that were selected for the females to sing are in Latin and Italian. The two songs are romantic pieces from the early 1900’s. The songs chosen for the males to sing are titled “Joshua” and “How Can I Keep From Singing.” Both of these songs are in English and upbeat.
Although most of the songs are somewhat religious, a few schools have decided to sing more modern pieces such as “The Circle of Life” from the Lion King. This is a concert that you will not want to miss. This concert has it all, a variety of songs, languages and voices all in one.
