Homecoming. A week filled with spirit, excitement, fun, and in our case, salad dressing.
This year, Prepsters got creative with their costumes with the theme “Tossed Up”. At first, students were hesitant about the idea. Dressing up for salad themed spirit days didn’t seem all that fun. However, all of that negativity was tossed away in the first few minutes of Monday morning. The school showed its usual Panther pride, decked out in leis, Hawaiian shirts, and sunglasses for Thousand-Island day. The spirit only grew after that with Caesar salad day.
Toga was the word of the day, and students enjoyed delicious Caesar salad served by the ASB officers. During lunch, students competed in chariot racing on the plaza. It was a hard fought battle, and the contestants had to deal with foggy conditions and hard to control chariots. On Wednesday, the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors arrived at school bright and early for testing day. Surprisingly, the spirit level was still high. Many students believed strongly in the motto “dress well, test well” and came to school in the classiest outfits they could find. Bow ties, dresses, and sweaters were seen all around the school, even if dressing nice might not have improved their test scores, Prep students still went all out for Balsamic Vinaigrette day.
The next day, both teachers and students donned their favorite plaid shirts, cowboy boots, and southern accents for a fun filled Ranch day. The amount of braids and bandannas was huge, and a little distracting in class. During lunch, some students participated in the activity “corn hole” while others watched, enjoying carrots covered in ranch dressing. That night, Prepsters went to bed with thoughts of the next day in their heads, anticipating the last spirit day of homecoming week 2013, the assembly, and the football game later that Friday night. Sophomore Helen Johnson likened the experience to “the excitement you feel on Christmas Eve.”
On Friday, the school exploded with blue and white. All day, excitement built for the homecoming assembly at the very end of the school day. When it finally arrived, students were not disappointed. The class competitions, senior sport dances, and ASB video were as funny and well put together as usual, and students got a look at this year’s fall play; The Imaginary Invalid, which promises to be a funny and entertaining show. PULSE impressed us with their dancing, and the ASB officers prepared the student body for the homecoming game.
Later that night, the fun increased with the spirit BBQ, and continued as the Prep students marched into the stands together. The Panthers cheered on their team all game, using the popular “I believe that we will win” cheer, complete with baby powder. Although Blanchet won in the end, the Prep football team fought hard and never gave up as they were encouraged by the spirit and excitement of the crowd. Even though the spirit week had ended, the fun continued the next day at the dance, themed “Lettuce turnip the beet”. As usual, there was a huge turnout, bringing all of the spirit, fun, and excitement of the week to a close.
