As many students may have observed, Peyton Hall is a pile of ruins this year. As promised, Seattle Prep has taken on a massive construction project, putting Seattle Prep into transition mode for the 2013-2014 school year.
Previously, the Peyton building was home to numerous classrooms and teacher offices, the Library, and of course, the Cafeteria. Most classes that used to be held in Peyton have moved to rooms in Ignatius or McDonell, and the Library has attached to the Computer Lab in room 115. While food services from the Cafeteria have migrated to the Commons, we’ve lost something vital—space to eat. The destruction of Peyton also destroyed many of the prandial habitats, the safe havens, and the conversation spots we used to enjoy during our lunch hour. Now students are lost, confused, and hungry, and they just want a place to eat their sandwiches.
No need to fear; there are still many places to eat around Seattle Prep. So if you’ve been taking your lunch into the bathroom this past month, that’s pretty gross so check out these great lunch spots instead:
The Dungeons: Unfortunately for the sophomores, the class of 2015 didn’t know how to clean up crumbs so the dungeons were off limits for lunch last year. Thankfully, Mr. Hickey has taken pity on the poor, cafeteria-less freshmen and the space is now open to students.
Ignatius: This building was barely utilized for lunch before the construction, but now it’s swimming with students. Particularly sophomores. If you are a sophomore who hasn’t been able to find you friends at lunch, that’s where they are. All of them.
The Chemistry Room: Whether in need some help with post-lab questions or just wanting a place to eat, students are always welcome to spend lunch with Ms. Murphy in room 209. Located on the second floor of McDonell, it’s one of the most sanitary rooms in the school – students should just make sure to have something to set their food on so they don’t risk consuming any chemicals.
Outside: This is more of a seasonal destination, but at the right time of year, there’s no better place to eat.
The Commons: If strategic enough, one may be able to score a table in the commons, which has been functioning as a makeshift cafeteria this year. Unfortunately, this place fills up very quickly, so make sure to run.
Stairwell to Dungeons: The stairwell in between the dungeons and the first floor of McDonnell is good place to sit, especially for freshmen since it’s near their lockers. Though a nuisance for those trying to get through, it’s a pleasant place to eat and chat.
Off campus: That’s right, juniors and seniors can go off campus for lunch. Most have already taken advantage of this opportunity, as it is quite the celebrated privilege. Hang in there underclassmen.
Though these are some of the best, there are still other great options around the school. There’s no need to fret, and certainly no need to ever eat in the bathroom.
