Olympic Week Soccer Results in Cinderella Story
This year’s Olympic Week saw the addition of two new events, Heads Up and Soccer. Coming into Olympic week the Seniors were heavily favored to win soccer as they had a lineup composed of varsity athletes and D1 recruits for soccer.
The bracket was set, and the Seniors had a seemingly easy road to the semi’s where the would take on Freshman Collegio, Gonzaga, in the first round, and Junior Collegio, Kostka, in the second round.
However, despite the immense talent on the Senior soccer team they were upset by the freshman in the first round in a game that went to a shootout. With the seniors eliminated it opened the door for the faculty and Junior Collegios to get a shot at taking home the championship.
Coming into the semis were the Faculty, Junior Collegio, Hopkins, Junior Collegio Rahner, and Freshman Collegio Gonzaga. Gonzaga, continued their Cinderella story by eliminating Hopkins Collegio, and reached the championship game by beating two Junior collegios and the seniors.
The Freshmen would meet the Faculty in the championship game where they would hope to upset another heavily favored team. Gonzaga started the championship game off strong scoring a goal in the first of five minutes. The faculty responded a couple minutes later by scoring, tying the game at 1 to 1. This score would hold up which forced a penalty kick shootout. Unfortunately, the Cinderella story for Gonzaga Collegio came to an end as the missed their first penalty shot and the Faculty made theirs, giving the faculty 200 points and the win for soccer.
