When someone thinks about Seattle Prep and food, their mind usually is drawn to the highly valued chocolate chip cookie. However, Chef Carter and the rest of the cooking staff prepare and produce much more than that. They provide not only your normal school lunch, but they go above and beyond with a breakfast bar, snack bars, and on special occasions, the coffee cart. Prep students love it all but they definitely have their favorites.

Whether it is the constant staple of the pasta bar and prepared salads and sandwiches, or the rotating hot food bar with a new dish every day, the students indulge in it all. The cafeteria provides students with the largest variety of foods to purchase making it the most common location to get lunch but, it is not the only one. Students can also get their mid-day meal from the Great Room or Commons which has lots of pre-made goodies. So, what do Panthers choose for their meals?

The average Panther buys lunch only a couple days of the week but there are also quite a few who make the cafeteria their home and buy lunch every single day! The pasta bar always accumulates a large line but so does the fried chicken, burgers, and a panther favorite, chicken pot pie when it makes its occasional appearance. When asked why pot pie was his favorite, Max Krosevic ’24 stated, “It is always piping hot, and the crust is flaky and delicious.”

The students generally love all the food that Chef Carter and the rest of the staff put out but would love to see some new items. When asked about other options, many Panthers asked to have chicken in different forms such as nuggets, sandwiches, or paired with waffles. Maybe breakfast for dinner combined with fried chicken? Sounds delicious.

A different perspective was added by junior Skye Luebbe Davidson who expressed his want for “foods from different countries” because “most of the food is from the American cuisine.” He claimed that this would provide different nutrients and ingredients for the students to taste. Sometimes, meals like that are created on special holidays but he wants it more often.

Who knows, maybe students will experience a new cuisine sometime in the near future. It is fair to say that the Panthers are never disappointed in what the cafeteria has to offer. However, the delicious food does go fast, so make sure to get their as soon as possible to ensure first pick at whatever the chefs have whipped up that day.
