Seattle Prep kicked off Arts Week on May 12th. Arts Week is a huge ordeal for all those involved. Preparation began weeks ago in order to be ready. In fact, students began making art pieces as early as September. Some of those pieces will be on display in the Commons for the duration of Arts Week.
As head of the arts department, Mr. Beyer runs Arts Week. On the first Monday of Arts Week, Mr. Beyer’s choir performed their Spring Concert at 7 PM. The Seattle Prep Art Gallery featuring student work opens at 6:30 PM on Monday as well. One Acts begin on Tuesday and go until Friday. There are five One Acts this year: “56 Year Old Boy” directed by Senior, Annika Perez-Krikorian, “Blind Love” written and directed by Sophomore, Caroline Lambert, “Frozen” directed by Nick McCarthy and Natalie Wong, “Looks Get in the Way” directed by Rachel Carlson, and “30 Years Later” written and directed by Senior, Charlie Shafer. Sophomore, Caroline Lambert, shares that it is a lot of work but definitely worth it. She says that her story line just came to her while she was doing her math homework; she couldn’t let it go once she had thought of it.
As a new director, Lambert shared that One Acts have helped her become more confident as an actress behind the curtain and in front. She says she has gained an immense amount of respect for her directors from her One Act experience. She looks forward to doing One Acts again next year.
On Wednesday, May 14th Seattle Prep’s Instrumental Band performed a concert for the school during lunch. Ms. Tordillos, leading the band, says the music group is a “wonderful opportunity for students to show they have an interest and talent that perhaps their classmates were not even aware of.” Arts Week ended on Friday with the Film Festival during window and an Awards Ceremony for One Acts at 7 PM.
