Members of The Panther staff gather at the JEA National Convention. Three Panther editors received Honorable Mention awards in Write-Off Contests.

On Friday and Saturday, April 7th and 8th, members of Seattle Prep Student Publications (Ignite, Journalism, Yearbook) attended the National Conference for the Journalism Education Association (JEA), which was held in Seattle this year.

Students had the opportunity to hear from experts, have their work critiqued, and meet other student journalists from around the country.

As part of the activities, the JEA holds “write-off” contests where students are given information or a presentation, then asked to write an article in about an hour. Six members of The Panther competed in these competitions and three Seniors earned accolades from the JEA:

-George Kent received an Honorable Mention rating for Review Writing

-Mimi Jurion received an Honorable Mention rating for Commentary Writing

-Mikaela Frigillana received an Honorable Mention rating for Newswriting
