March 17th marks St. Patrick’s day, a religious celebration celebrated by millions worldwide. Though some choose to celebrate this holiday by eating corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes, others choose to dye their toilets green, or wear green for the day. However some students at Prep celebrate this holiday in a unique and interesting way.

Irish Dancer Cameron Lambert ’19, explained how on every St. Patrick’s day, he skips school to dance at nursing homes and retirement homes across King County. At night he dances at the Wilde Rover Pub in Kirkland were he dances and eats traditional Irish food. Cameron stated, “St. Patrick’s day is one of my favorite holidays because I’m able to give back to the community through dance.”

Sophomore Lauren O’Donnell and her family participate in the annual Seattle St. Patrick’s Day dash, a 5k fun run covering downtown city streets. For the race Lauren dresses up her little brother as a leprechaun, saying “Its a great creative way to embrace our Irish culture.” After the race Lauren goes to her grandparents house to make homemade rye bread and shamrock cookies.

Science teacher Mr. Niggemeyer has an all green dinner on St. Patrick’s were his wife dyes all of the foods green, including the beverages. Similarly sophomore Grace Nenke’s family celebrate this holiday by cooking green pancakes in the shape of shamrocks.

Though St. Patrick’s day is usually under celebrated by families in Prep, these are a few examples of families that have an interesting take on The unique holiday.
